LESSON 02 / 08The Cockpit

Funding Your Account

The plumbing lesson: getting money in without surprises, understanding why cash sometimes 'waits,' and making the one account-type decision that outlasts every trade. If you took the Robinhood course, the physics here are identical — settlement is market plumbing, not an app policy.

Link one bank, deliberately.

In the account area, connect your primary checking account — instant verification where supported, small test deposits otherwise. One funding artery, clean records. Webull also supports transferring an existing brokerage account in from another firm (the industry's automated transfer system moves whole positions without selling) — the right move when consolidating, and worth knowing before you assume you must sell and re-buy.

Deposits and provisional buying power.

Standard bank transfers take a few business days to truly move; Webull typically credits some provisional buying power while the transfer completes. Same durable caution as any broker: the money is real when the underlying transfer settles, and a reversed transfer creates a genuine mess. Deposit deliberately, from an account that can cover it, every time.

Settlement, so it never confuses you.

Sell a stock and US markets settle the trade the next business day. Proceeds are usually available to reinvest immediately, but withdrawing cash to your bank waits for settlement plus transfer time. Plan withdrawals about a week out and this plumbing will never once annoy you. It's the market, not the app.

Account types: the decision before the deposit.

Webull offers taxable brokerage accounts and IRAs (traditional and Roth). The Foundations ladder applies unchanged: tax-advantaged space generally earns its fill before taxable investing does. Decide which account this money belongs to before it arrives — the label on the account decides decades of tax treatment, and no trade you'll ever place matters as much.

Automate the inflow.

Set a fixed, budget-sized recurring deposit and let it run — the automatic-beats-heroic law, implemented in the transfers screen. Webull also supports recurring investments into chosen securities, which lesson eight wires into your full workflow. For now: money arriving on schedule, without consulting your mood, is the foundation everything else stands on.

One artery, deliberate deposits, patience with settlement, the account-type decision made before the money moves, and a fixed inflow on autopilot. Boring plumbing, exactly as designed.
